Check out this article on a media release with the Honourable Nathalie Provost, Secretary of State (Nature), highlighting the new nature strategy to protect Canada's natural environment.
Nootka Sound Watershed Society's collaborative 2 Billion Trees planting and riparian restoration project is highlighted in the media event held May 11 in Oak Bay, Victoria, BC.
"On the Island, the Nootka Sound Watershed Society is receiving $917,648 to plant more than 82,000 trees to restore 22 hectares of riparian habitat along salmon streams damaged by historic logging operations, and 4.3 hectares of uplands forest damaged by landslides in the Oktwanch and Muchalat watersheds."
We are grateful to Mowachaht Muchalaht First Nation for the opportunity to partner together and to do this important restoration work in their traditional territory. Thank you to our partners involved in every aspect of the project from planning to planting - MMFN, Salmon Parks Stewardship Society, Western Forest Products, Redd Fish Restoration Society, Nootka Reforestation, and Trinity Consultants Canada. Gratitude also to funders and our Program Officers of the 2 Billion Trees program at Environment and Climate Change Canada for supporting this project and making it possible to restore fragile salmon habitat in Nootka Sound.
Together we are making a real difference for salmon!
