Join the NSWS as we monitor the Tahsis River Estuary this spring and aid in coast wide efforts to determine where and when juvenile salmon use this valuable habitat.
Volunteers will:
· Perform beach seines · ID species of juvenile salmon · Collect biological data · Become familiar with the aquatic creatures in our estuary
This project is meant to help the NSWS provide the community of Tahsis an opportunity for engagement and hands-on-learning about the habitat in our local estuary and the species that rely on it, as well as collect spatial and temporal data on out-migrating salmon smolts to satisfy data gaps in the multi-stakeholder West Coast Vancouver Island Marine Risk Assessment being led by West Coast Aquatics.
Meet at 9:30am at the West Bay Beach parking lot on the following days:
